For the second year running, the Veneto Region has launched the VeneTo Stars Challenge, a project aimed at young European talents, aged between 18 and 25, who wish to present innovative ideas to be implemented through the use of space data. Following last year’s success with the initiative dedicated to the theme “Space Data for Agri-food sector”, the title of the VeneTo Stars Challenge 2024 is “Space Data for UNESCO Heritage Site Valorization”, thus addressing the protection of cultural heritage and UNESCO sites through the use of space data.

With this project, Veneto aims to become a point of reference for digital innovation, space policies and the protection of cultural heritage through important partners including: the European Space Agency (ESA), the Italian Space Agency (ASI), the Italian Institute of Technology (iit), the Italian National Commission for UNESCO, the Italian Heritage States, and the European Weather Research Institute (ECMWF).

Until 3 May, it is possible to propose ideas. The ten selected proposals will be presented during the Space Meetings Veneto event, scheduled from 20 to 22 May in Venice. In June, the competition winners will be hosted for a week in Veneto and will have the opportunity to put their project into practice.

Thanks to a collaboration between the Representation of Italy to UNESCO and the Representation of Italy to the European Space Agency (ESA), on 30 April, the VeneTo Stars Challenge will be presented to UNESCO at an event attended by the President of the Veneto Region, Luca Zaia, as well as representatives and experts from UNESCO and ESA.
