“During the World Heritage Committee meeting which took place in Cracow, two new Italian properties have been inscribed on the World Heritage List. The first – the Primeval Beech Forests of the Carpathians and Other Regions of Europe – is a transnational site shared with eleven other European countries. The second, the Venetian Works of Defence between the 16th and 17th Centuries: Stato da Terra – Western Stato da Mar, is a masterpiece of Italian architecture.
The Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Angelino Alfano declared: « With its 53rd site, Italy still holds the record of the highest number of World heritage sites : a true culture and beauty superpower ».
