Liborio STELLINO
Permanent Delegate of Italy to UNESCO and BIE, with the title and rank of Ambassador, since February 28th, 2023
Born in 1965, Liborio Stellino graduates in political sciences at the Luiss University in Rome. He enters the diplomatic career in 1990 with a first position in the Office for Sub-Saharan Africa in the Directorate-General for Political Affairs.
In 1992, he is appointed Deputy Chief of Mission at the Italian embassy in Nicosia. In 1997, he moves to Rabat as chief of the Department for economy and trade of the Italian Embassy. Three years later, in 2000, he returns to Rome where he is appointed counsellor for international affairs of the Minister for University and Scientific and Technological Research.
In 2001, he returns to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Minister’s Cabinet, where he is in charge of relations with the Parliament. Between 2002 and 2006, he heads the press office of the Italian Embassy in Moscow.
From 2006 to 2010 he serves as Consul General in Boston. Back to Italy, he is appointed counsellor for international activities of the Lombardy region in preparation for EXPO Milano, as well as diplomatic counsellor for the Commissary-General for the Universal Exposition of 2015. Afterwards he returns to Rome where he takes on the position of head of the Department for the Russian Federation, Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Caucasus.
In 2015, he is appointed Ambassador of Italy to the United Arab Emirates, where he serves until 2019.
Between October 1st 2019 and February 27th 2023, Liborio Stellino served as Director-General for Economic Internationalization and Deputy Director-General for Country Promotion at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI).
He is married with Teresa with whom he has two daughters, Chiara and Francesca.
