These are Italy’s candidatures to the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage: the “Perdonanza Celestiniana”, a ritual tradition from the province of l’Aquila which dates back to the 14th century ; “Transhumance”, a pastoral tradition shared by numerous countries of the Alps and the Mediterranean (Italy initiated the candidature, together with Austria and Greece) and “Alpinism”, the art of climbing mountains thanks to one’s athletic, technical and intellectual skills (a transnational candidature initiated by France and shared with Italy and Switzerland).
The three candidatures are the fruit of the engagement of the Italian Ministries of Cultural Heritage and Land Policies. They will be studied by the Intangible Heritage Committee which will make its official decision public in 2019.
The Intangible Cultural Heritage List currently comprises 470 sites in 117 countries, of which 8 are in Italy.
