The Vineyard landscape of Piedmont : Langhe-Roero and Monferrato inscribed on the World Heritage List (15-25 June 2014)

The World Heritage Committee at its 38th Session held in Doha from the 15th to the 25th of June has inscribed the Vineyard landscape of Piedmont: Langhe-Roero and Monferrato on the World Heritage List.
This landscape is located in the southern part of Piedmont, between the Po River and the Ligurian Apennines, and encompasses the whole range of technical and economic processes relating to the winegrowing and winemaking that has characterized the region for centuries.
It has been inscribed by UNESCO as an « outstanding example of man’s interaction with his natural environment ».
The Minister for Cultural Activities and Heritage and Tourism, Dario Franceschini, declared on this occasion: “Our Ministry is very proud of this recognition because UNESCO’s evaluation criteria for new sites are very selective (…). It’s even more special for Italy because it marks the 50th World Heritage site on our territory. This treasure deserves the utmost care from our government».
