Rome and Parma have been appointed to the Creative Cities Network (for cinema and gastronomy)

Today UNESCO appointed Rome and Parma to the Creative Cities Network, respectively for cinema and gastronomy
The Creative Cities Network was launched in 2004 with the aim of fostering sustainable development by promoting cultural traditions, craftsmanship and local firms. Today it comprises 116 cities, which are classified under the following categories: cinema, music, craftsmanship and folk arts, media arts, literature, design and gastronomy.

By appointing a city to the Creative Cities Network UNESCO acknowledges its efforts to use culture as a driver for urban sustainable development, social inclusion and cultural dynamism.
For Italy, it represents a key acknowledgement of the initiatives that have been carried out by each city in its own category. Rome and Parma will now be able, on the one hand, to use UNESCO’s logo in all their cultural and tourism promotion activities and to benefit from the international visibility it provides, on the other.

The other Italian cities belong to the Creative Cities Network are Bologna for music, Fabriano for craftsmanship and Turin for design.
