Safeguarding cultural heritage: the replica of the Winged Bull of Nimrud produced by “Associazione Incontro di Civiltà” to be exhibited at UNESCO headquarters

The replica of the Lamassu – the Winged Bull which protected the North West Palace of Ashurnasirpal in the archaeological site of Nimurd (Iraq) before being destroyed by ISIS  – will be exhibited in front of the main entrance of UNESCO headquarters until January 2018.

The full-size reproduction of the statue was produced thanks to state-of-the-art 3D printing techniques by “Associazione Incontro di Civiltà” presided by Mr. Francesco Rutelli, with the support of the “Fondazione Terzo Pilastro – Italia e Mediterraneo”. It will be donated to the Iraqi Government at the end of the exhibition.

After the inauguration, Francesco Rutelli was a guest of honor at the UNESCO event titled “Responding to cultural cleasing, Preventing violent extremism”
