In a few days the 39th UNESCO General Conference will start, with an Italian Chair to its Culture Commission for the first time.
The autumn session of the Executive Board has just ended with the approval of the Appeal for the protection of cultural heritage in crisis zones which was proposed by Italy and will be pronounced by UNESCO’s Member States during the General Conference (Decision 5.I.H).
During the Executive Board, Italy and France have promoted the “Ice memory” project, which, by means of the approved Decision, highlights the importance of international scientific cooperation in a domain which has high educational and cultural fall backs.
Italy has also actively supported several Decisions on these topics:
- Preventing violent extremism by means of education
- Protecting journalists
- Education for refugees and migrants
- Ethical principles of climate change
- Report on Biosphere Reserves, Geoparcs and World Heritage sites
