International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP)

International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP)

For more than 50 years, the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) has been a driving force to advance scientific expertise. Founded in 1964 by the late Nobel Laureate Abdus Salam, ICTP seeks to accomplish its mandate by providing scientists from developing countries with the continuing education and skills that they need to enjoy long and productive careers.

Every year ICTP holds conventions, seminars and classes on the latest global developments in science, thus providing researchers and students with multifold opportunities for upskilling their knowledge.

Ever since its creation, more than 130.000 scientists from 188 countries have benefited from the work of ICTP thanks, among others, to its computer network which is connected to the world’s main scientific databases.

The Italian Ministry of Education, Research and University finances 80% of ICTP’s budget, which also receives contributions from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and UNESCO.
