The Appeal will be launched by the Organization\u2019s 195 Member States during the next General Conference, in the framework of the Culture Commission, which will be chaired by Italy. This initiative has two purposes :<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">a) underline the relevance of the path initiated in 2015 by UNESCO upon Italy\u2019s \u00ab Culture Blue Helmets \u00bb initiative, which led to the adoption of the historical 2347 Resolution by the Security Council of the United Nations a few months ago;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">b) make sure that the protection of cultural heritage stays a priority of the new Director-General which will be elected in the October session of the Executive Board.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"UNESCO\u2019s Executive Board unanimously approved Italy\u2019s proposal of Appeal for the safeguarding of cultural heritage in crisis zones.
