With these words Italy&#8217;s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Angelino Alfano, expressed his\u00a0intense satisfaction after\u00a0this morning&#8217;s\u00a0adoption\u00a0of the\u00a0Appeal entitled\u00a0\u2018Protecting Culture and Promoting Cultural Pluralism: the key to lasting peace\u2019\u00a0by UNESCO\u2019s General Conference . The Appeal, which was\u00a0promoted by Italy, was\u00a0read aloud\u00a0by children and teenagers coming from all around the globe\u00a0in the\u00a0six\u00a0official languages of the\u00a0United Nations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Minister Alfano underlined how the Appeal\u00a0addresses\u00a0Governments, but especially the younger generations, in order for them to safeguard cultural heritage and the\u00a0universal\u00a0values it stands for. This solemn act, in fact, recalls us that the safeguarding of\u00a0cultural heritage and cultural pluralism\u00a0are essential elements to foster peace, security and sustainable development.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Minister Alfano\u00a0proudly remembered that\u00a0Italy was elected for the first time Chair\u00a0of UNESCO\u2019s Culture Commission, in which the Appeal was approved. \u201cThis result\u201d, he continued, \u201cis a consequence\u00a0of\u00a0the intense work carried out\u00a0by our country at\u00a0UNESCO, which succeeded in raising\u00a0the international community&#8217;s\u00a0awareness on the importance of safeguarding cultural heritage\u00a0as the\u00a0expression of peoples&#8217; identity, and of cultural pluralism as an\u00a0essential condition for peaceful coexistence and \u00a0sustainable development\u201d. It&#8217;s in this framework\u00a0that\u00a0Italy &#8211;\u00a0the first among all of UNESCO&#8217;s\u00a0Member States &#8211; decided to\u00a0establish a national Task Force composed\u00a0of cultural heritage experts and\u00a0Carabinieri\u00a0from the\u00a0Department\u00a0for the\u00a0Safeguarding\u00a0of\u00a0Cultural Heritage.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Furthermore, Minister Alfano announced that, \u00a0Italy will organize an event\u00a0on this topic\u00a0at the end of November,\u00a0in the framework of its\u00a0Presidency of the UN\u2019s Security Council.
