Under the leadership of Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Giulio Picchi, the Italian Delegation to the World Heritage Committee comes back from Manama, where Member States are meeting, with the inscription of Ivrea and the negative evaluation of the advisory body turned into a report to 2019 for the Prosecco Hills. This result was made possible thanks to the diplomatic network and the numerous bilateral meetings which have taken place in Manama with the purpose of highlighting the property\u2019s unique characteristics.\u00a0 As a consequence, the absolute majority of Member States were in favor of the site\u2019s inscription this year, and the required quorum of two thirds was almost reached. With today\u2019s result, Italy now possesses 54 Italian World Heritage properties and its leading role in the protection of cultural heritage is further strengthened. \u201cAfter Manama our image is strengthened and we are still the key reference point at UNESCO, as well as an coherence example for all countries who wish to promote their cultural heritage\u00a0\u00bb\u2013 declared Undersecretary Picchi. \u201cWe have been able to make our voice heard and obtained a new evaluation of the Prosecco Hills by refusing the negative issue which seemed unavoidable\u00a0\u00bb \u2013 he added \u2013 \u201c We have convinced the Committee to reconsider the recommendations of the advisory board and to recognize the unique social and cultural features of the Prosecco Hills. Through the inscription of Ivrea, Italy has proposed an innovative site in the WH List: an industrial site with a strong social component. This opens the way for other candidatures from other countries\u201d.\u00a0<\/p>\n
