The Italian Representations to OECD and UNESCO organised an event with microprocessor inventor Federico Faggin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On the occasion of the Italian Research Day in the World, the Italian Permanent Representations to the OECD and UNESCO held a joint event in Paris in order to present <em>Federico Faggin, l&#8217;uomo che vide il futuro (Federico Faggin, the man who saw the future) <\/em>a documentary recently produced by the RAI. The screening was followed by a discussion with the physicist himself.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Established in 2018 by the Ministry of University and Research, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Ministry of Health, the Italian Research Day in the World celebrates and promotes the invaluable contribution of Italian researchers to global science. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs supports this International Day through the Italian diplomatic network, promoting the excellency of Italian research in the world.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Federico Faggin &#8211; famous physicist, entrepreneur, and a key figure in the digital revolution &#8211; is best known for leading the development of the first commercial microprocessor in 1970. His pioneering work has profoundly shaped modern computing and the technologies that still define our digital lives today. The documentary, directed by Marcello Foa, tells the story of his life and achievements.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ambassador Sabbatucci, Permanent Representative of Italy to the International Organisations in Paris, highlighted how Faggin\u2019s journey reflects the power of turning ideas into technologies and the importance of visionary thinking in addressing future challenges. The invention of the microprocessor, he noted, opened new horizons for humanity, leading the way to spreading technological intelligence in a variety of sectors such as transport, medicine, telecommunications, space and artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ambassador Liborio Stellino, Italy\u2019s Permanent Representative to UNESCO, emphasized Faggin\u2019s extraordinary contribution to making technology more accessible and democratic and to the transition from bulky and expensive machines to smaller, more powerful and affordable computers.
